I've traveled to 26 countries, often solo.
As a 1.5 generation immigrant to the US from Singapore - a quintessential "third culture kid" - I live with the tension of not truly belonging anywhere. I used to say that home was a piano in a dark room. These days Chicago feels something like home, but "home" is a nebulous concept - an idea that sounds lovely but that I don't quite understand.
Travel is freedom - freedom from the expectation of belonging, from the expectation of being comfortable. Some part of me is most myself when I'm sipping coffee at a cafe in France.
